Meru national park-Kenya wildlife parks.

Meru National Park is a Kenyan forest reserve located east of Meru, 350 km from Nairobi. Covering an area of 87,044 hectares.

Meru national park is famous as the place where Elsa, the lioness of Joy Adamson's book 'Born Free', was returned to the wilds.

Of all of Kenya's parks, Meru presents the widest variety of landscapes and habitat. Forest, swamp and savannah are pierced by fifteen perennial rivers all rising from the Mount Kenya massif and destined to reach the Tana River which forms the park's lower boundary.

Meru is alive with an enormous variety of colourful birds. Part of Meru's charm is that this park has never enjoyed the popularity of many of the other parks and reserves.

Meru National Park is famous for its birdlife with forest and riverine as well as the arid species. Animals include elephant, white rhino, gerenuk, eland, reticulated beisa, oryx, grevy's zebra, grants gazelle, giraffe, and their predators lion, leopard, cheetah and the hyena.

Activities include;
Exploring the park on foot,guided nature walks, bush breakfasts on the plains, line fishing, sundowners at the hippo pools, swimming in the horizontal pool cleft in the rocks.

This is where George and Joy Adamson released several hand-reared animals.

The Mulika Lodge Airport serves Meru National Park.

Tourist attractions include the home of George and Joy Adamson, Adamson's Falls, views of Mount Kenya, and the Tana River.
