Kenya Tsavo national park.Kenya wildlife safaris

Tsavo East National Park is one of the world's largest game reserves, providing undeveloped wilderness homes to vast numbers of animals including the big five:lion, elephants, leopards, rhinos, and buffalo.

Over 500 bird species have been recorded in the area.

In May 1948 Tsavo National Park was divided into East and West for administrative purposes. The two Parks are divided by Nairobi–Mombasa railway /road.

Tsavo East is a very popular Park . Some of the attractive scenic features include:

* large herds of elephants and other wildlife.
* it is easily accessible by road.
* popular legend of Tsavo “The Man-eaters of Tsavo”.
* Yatta plateau – It is about 290Km long and is one of the worlds longest lava flows.
* Lugards Falls on the Galana river – This is not a true falls but a series of rapids. Visitors can walk down to the river to view the rapids.
* Mudanda rock – This is a long rock outcrop that is about 1.6Km long. There is a dam at the base. Animals can be seen drinking. Visitors can walk along the rock and enjoy a cool breeze as well as view wildlife at the base.
* Aruba Dam - was built in 1952 across the Voi river. The dam attracts many animals and water birds can be seen at this dam.
* Tsavo/Athi rivers confluence – when the two rivers join they form the Galana river.

Tsavo West National Park covers 7065 km2, approximately 30% of Kenya's area under parks, and contains a diversity of habitats, wildlife and a mountainous scenic landscape.

4 Days Tsavo West, Amboseli, Tsavo East - By Road

The safari lets us experience a Kenyan African Safari in an easy paced road journey that explores the scenic Tsavo West, the majesty of the Mount Kilimanjaro at the Amboseli and the rolling Savana plains of the Tsavo east.

Day 1: MOMBASA - TSAVO WEST (240 kms, Appx. 4 hrs)

Our 3 days, 2 nights Kenya Coast Tsavo East/Tsavo West national parks road safari departs from Mombasa and the Kenyan coast.

We depart from the Coast for our inland safari journey via the explorers’ route, the Mombasa – Nairobi highway. The 240 km, 4-hour journey through tarmac and gravel roads will be broken en-route on a refreshments stopover. We will enter the Tsavo West and commence game viewing towards the direction of our accommodation base. After check in, we will freshen up and enjoy a buffet lunch.
Here, laws of the jungle apply. Activities cease when the sun is up. In the late afternoon, we will venture out to the Rhino Sanctuary with some game viewing en-route to try our chances at spotting this endangered species. It’s game viewing with the throws of sunset as we head back to our wildlife lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: TSAVO WEST - AMBOSELI (140 kms, 3 hrs)

Sunset finds us ready and out for our pre-breakfast game viewing drive. We will visit the Mzima Springs and explore on foot this volcanic wonder marveling at the hippos, crocodiles, exotic fish, and tropical vegetation together with resident and migratory bird species. We return to our wildlife lodge for breakfast before checking out and proceeding further south to the Amboseli National Park.

The 2-hour journey on gravel tracks gets us to our accommodation bases in Amboseli. We will check in, freshen up, enjoy lunch, and relax bidding our time for the natural circus that awakens when the sun begins its journey down. Our game viewing drive will be short, detailed, and comprehensive. Amboseli is small and sparse of vegetation, animal spotting is easy and fast, the Mt. Kilimanjaro in it’s majesty will shear off the clouds, snow will gleam on it’s peak and Africa in all it’s splendor will be smiling at you. It is a sight to behold, a photographers moment for those magical memories. We will return to the wildlife lodge for meals and overnight.

Day 3: AMBOSELI - TSAVO EAST (300 kms, 5½ hrs)

Dawn at Amboseli: Yet another date with Kilimanjaro. We will game watch as we exit after a hearty breakfast. A bumpy start before we re-join the highway, Nairobi – Mombasa, for our last leg; the Tsavo East National Park. Arrival at our base for check-in, freshening up, lunch and relaxation. Our next appointment with nature begins at about 1600hrs.
Our evening game drive will be slow and appreciative “no hurry in Africa” is the norm now. No clamor for snaps, we will drink in the serenity of the jungle while reflecting on the essence of nature. Our driver guide will be more informative on animal behavior and keen on pointing out characteristics. We return to our wildlife lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: TSAVO EAST - MOMBASA (170 kms, 3 hrs)

Dawn finds us ready for our early morning game viewing drive. Tsavo is expansive and open. We will explore this vastness in a relaxed style with more time spent at our sightings. We return to our base and check out.
A last lap of honour will follow in our optional post-breakfast game drive followed by a long lunch and a relaxed drive back to the Coast. We will be dropped off at our respective hotels.
