Kilimanjaro with
its three volcanic cones, Kibo, Mawensi, and Shira, is an inactive stratovolcano
in north-eastern Tanzania.
Although it does not have the highest elevation, Kilimanjaro
is the tallest free-standing mountain rise in the world and the highest
peak in Africa at 5,895 meters (19,340 ft), providing a dramatic view
from the surrounding plains.
The highest point is Uhuru Peak on the volcano Kibo, 5,895
meters (19,340 ft).

Machame Route climb 7 days 6 nights
This is the second most popular route, 26 km long, and
it is considered the most beautiful route up Kilimanjaro.With a gradual
ascend through the forest you emerge to see wide views of the moorland
on Shira plateau, Kibo and Western Breach. The different kinds of vegetation
found along the route make it the most scenery route. We are approaching
the summit with an acclimatization day by walking in the same heights
(Barafu Camp to Karranga Valley Camp), and another day by stopping at
Karranga Valley camp (we are one of few tour operators offering this).
There are no mountain huts on this route; the accommodation
is in mountain tents. For a slightly more technical climb on Kilimanjaro,
one can conquer Uhuru peak from Arrow Glacier camp, but a less challenging
route can be taken from Barranco hut. The route done in six days is physically
challenging for most people. The last two days (the trek from Barranco
to Barafu and then the overnight trek to the summit) require mental and
physical toughness, due to the high altitude and short amount of time
to rest before the overnight summit attempt.
DAY 01: Hotel - Machame Gate
At 7:30 a.m., you will transfer to the Machame Park Gate (5,950 ft./ 1,815
mt.). After registering with the park authority, we'll begin our climb
through the lush forest. Trekkers will likely hear the many exotic birds
in the canopy above, and many even see black & white colobus monkeys
and Sykes monkeys as they hike along the knotted roots and mud on the
forest floor. We'll continue on to some heath land before reaching our
overnight camp at Machame Camp (9,850 feet, 6-7 hours of walking), just
above the forest zone. The trek is quite long, thus not steep. Dinner
and Overnight at Machame camp.
Meal Plan: {B, L, D}
DAY 02: Machame Gate - Shira Camp
Today's segment of the ascent will continue across beautiful heath land
and alpine moorland with magnificent views of Kilimanjaro Peak. We begin
up the steep track through a savannah of tall grasses, and trees of Giant
Heather and Erica. Scramble around large boulders as you enter the moorland
zone, marked by lobelia and Seneca plants, and volcanic rocks draped with
lichen beards, which protect wild alpine flowers growing at their bases.
We'll overnight at Shira Camp (12,600 feet, 5-6 hours of walking).Dinner
and Overnight at Shira camp.
Meal Plan: {B, L, D}
DAY 03: Shira Camp - Barranco Camp
Breakfast. You will draw nearer the peak as we get closer to the Lava
Tower. The trek becomes a bit more strenuous as the trail steepness on
the approach to the lava Tower, a 300 foot tall volcanic plug which marks
an exposed pass at 15,000 feet. In the afternoon, descend the steep track
into the Great Barranco Valley. Barranco Camp is set on a cool (flat area)
enclosed on three sides with steep valley walls and the Kibo massif itself.
Hanging glaciers glint in the sunshine above, amidst the eerie landscape
of plants such as the giant groundsels (Seneca Kilimanjaro), and the uniquely
endemic Giant Lobelia. Then we slowly ascent to our overnight stop at
Barranco Camp (12,950 feet, 5-6 hours of walking). This day and the following
day will be your acclimatization day. Dinner and Overnight at Barranco
Camp.
Meal Plan: {B, L, D}
DAY 04: Barranco Camp - Karanga Valley Camp
Breakfast. The day will begin with a descent into the Gorge, before we
climb its eastern wall where we will enjoy views of Kilimanjaro ice fields,
an equatorial anomaly. We will continue trekking until we reach our camp
in Karanga Valley (13,900 feet, 4-5 hours of walking).Dinner and Overnight
at Karanga valley camp.
Meal Plan: {B, L, D}
DAY 05: Karanga Valley Camp - Barafu Camp
Breakfast. You will trek up through the Karanga Valley, the trail turns
steadily uphill, following the lava ridge to the Barafu camp. The temperature
will grow colder and the landscape more sparse as we near Barafu Camp.
Barafu Camp is set on a small, exposed flat area on a ridge, acting as
a base camp from which you will make your summit attempt at midnight tonight.
Barafu camp (15,200 feet, 6-7 hours of walking).Dinner and Overnight at
Barafu camp.
Meal Plan: {B, L, D}
DAY 06: Barafu Camp - Uhuru Peak - Mweka Camp
Just after midnight we start of a challenging trek(12-17 hours of trekking).
You begin trekking at 12:30 to 1am, passing between the Rebmann and Tarsal
glaciers to the rim at Stella Point. The temperatures range from just
below freezing at midnight, to between 10 deg. F (-12 deg. C) to 10 F.
(-23 deg. C) just before dawn at the summit. As dawn nears, we'll summit
at Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa at 19,340 feet. Uhuru will
be the culmination of - and the reward for - 6-7 hours of strenuous hiking.
We'll then descend back to Barafu Camp, resting for a while before continuing
our descent to Mweka Camp (9,840 feet, 3-4 hours of walking on the descent).Dinner
and Overnight at Mweka camp.
Meal Plan: {B, L, D}
DAY 07: Mweka Camp - Machame Gate
Breakfast. You will make our final descent to the park gate, a walk of
about 3 or 4 hours. After bidding our farewells to our guide and porters,
we'll drive to Arusha for b/breakfast.
Meal Plan: {B}

to the Southern Glaciers of Kilimanjaro and Western Breach of Kibo. An
ascent of Kibo by Umbwe route is one of the finest non-technical mountaineering
expeditions. It is a challenging route, unsuitable for the solitary or
the inexperienced, and a route off the beaten track.
DAY 01: Hotel - Umbwe Gate - Umbwe Cave Camp
At 7:30 a.m., you will transfer you to the Umbwe Park Gate at 2,100m.
The path begins an a narrow ridge crest between the Lonzo River to the
West and the Umbwe River to the East. It is easy to follow as it continues
up through the dense forest. The path continues to follow the ridge, rising
steadily with some steep sections and scramble rocks. The route takes
you to the first tented camp Umbwe Cave (at 2,940m) in 5 to 6 hrs.
Meal Plan: {B, L, D}
DAY 02: Umbwe Cave Camp - Barranco Camp

of reaching the summit.
Meal Plan: {B, L, D}
DAY 04:Barranco Camp - Arrow Glacier
The route leads to the Western Breach and continue up to Umbwe ridge,
which becomes the western lateral moraine of the peak. The route goes
straight towards the Western Breach and then reaches Arrow Glacier which
is at 4,800m.
Meal Plan: {B, L, D}
DAY 05: Arrow Glacier - Uhuru Peak - Mweka Hut
To ascent to summit and descend on this day you may involve between 10
1/2 or 14 1/2 hrs of climbing. We start right after midnight, to see the
sunrise from the summit, also to avoid the mist, and the snow on the ascent
will still be frozen. So after 3 km. and 6 - 8 hours (an ascend of 1100m)
you will reach the top and descent through Barafu to 2800m. The descent
to Mweka hut takes 4 - 7 hours of walking.
Meal Plan: {B, L, D}
DAY 06: Mweka Hut - Mweka Gate

RONGAI ROUTE
Kilimanjaro ( 5 Nights / 6 Days)
Guaranteed Departures Minimum order: 2 People
The Rongai route begins on the northern side of the mountain
and is the least traveled route. It is a long drive to the starting point
but you are rewarded by fantastic views and the likelihood that you will
be the only climbers around. If you take this route up the mountain you
are obliged by park rules to descend via the Marangu Route which is the
most popular and well used route.
DAY 01: Hotel - Rongai Gate - First Cave
Today we transfer to the start of the Rongai route, close to the Kenyan
border, where we begin the ascent of Kilimanjaro. The first night will
be camping at the first cave.
Meal Plan: {B, L, D}
DAY 02: First Cave - Third Cave
The climbing today is a gradual ascent and we get great views of the plains
of Kenya below and the spectacular Mawenzi Tarn above. We get up to a
height of 3800m today where we camp for the night by the Third Cave.
Meal Plan: {B, L, D}
DAY 03: Third Cave
We have an extra day for acclimatization. This is spent in the vicinity
of Third Cave taking gentle walks.
Meal Plan: {B, L, D}
DAY 04: Third Cave - Kibo Hut
Our climb today takes us through the lunar desert of the Saddle, the lava-covered
expanse between the two peaks Mawenzi and Kibo. By the end of the day
we reach Kibo Hut at 4700m where we camp overnight and rest, ready for
the ascent the next day.
Meal Plan: {B, L, D}
DAY 05: Kibo Hut - Uhuru Peak - Horombo Hut
We have a very early start for the final ascent, leaving the hut in the
middle of the night to arrive at Uhuru Peak just after dawn. It is a 4
to 5 hour slow walk up increasingly steep screed to Gillman's Point at
5690m followed by a further 1 to 2 hour walk around the crater rim to
Uhuru Peak at 5896m. You have incredible views of glaciers many storey
high surrounding you, and the plains of Africa stretched out below you.
After taking in this amazing view we return by the same path past Kibo
Hut and on down the Marangu Route all the way to Horombo Hut.
Meal Plan: {B, L, D}
DAY 06: Horombo Hut - Marangu Gate
It just takes us about half the day to descend back down to the park gates

LEMOSHO ROUTE
Kilimanjaro ( 7 Nights / 8 Days)
Guaranteed Departures Minimum order: 2 People
Lemosho Route is a very special itinerary designed for
those wishing to make the ascent to the summit in the daylight hours.
You spend a night in Kibo crater and trek to the top of the inner Reich
crater. Here there is a stunning view into the Ash Pit, and this itinerary
crosses the Shira Plateau. It takes in the glades on the Lemosho Route
as well as the drive to high altitude on the first day which takes us
through magnificent scenery with views of the Great Rift Valley, Mt Meru
and Longido. The vegetation changes along the track are striking with
especially large Sceneries. We often see more wildlife using this route,
particularly eland and buffaloes, and there is evidence of leopard and
other animals. We operate this trip at a very high level of comfort, which
makes it more expensive than some of our other routes.
DAY 01: Hotel - Londorossi Park Gate - Mti Mkubwa Camp
A three-hour drive from Moshi brings us to the Londorossi Park Gate located
on the western side of Kilimanjaro. At the gate after registration we
pick up a game ranger who will accompany us, as we might encounter elephants
and buffaloes during our trek. Drive to the trailhead at Lemosho Glades
and start the trek through the rain forest. In places the vegetation is
so untouched that it grows right across the narrow track. The flora and
fauna are richer here than on the other more popular routes through the
rain forest. Our trek today will be along a little used track known as
Chamber's Route. In about 3-4 hours we will reach our camp in the rain
forest at Mti Mkubwa (Big Tree) at 2795m.
Meal Plan: {B, L, D}
DAY 02: Mti Mkubwa Camp - Shira 1 Camp
After breakfast, start the climb cross the remaining rain forest towards
the giant moorland zone. Today is a full day trek with an altitude gain
of 610m. After lunch we cross into the Shira Caldera, a high altitude
desert plateau which is rarely visited. Shira is the third of Kilimanjaro
volcanic cones, and is filled with lava flow from Kibo Peak. Overnight
Shira 1 Camp at 3505m.
Meal Plan: {B, L, D}
DAY 03: Shira 1 Camp - Shira 2 Camp
After breakfast continue hike east across the Shira Plateau past the Shira
Cathedral towards Shira Two camp. You only gain 214 feet in elevation
- this allows you to acclimatize slowly to the altitude. The views of
the plateau are nothing less than spectacular. Overnight at Shira 2 Camp
3720m.
Meal Plan: {B, L, D}
DAY 04: Shira 2 Camp - Baranco Camp
It's about a 7 hour superb hike today. We pass the Lava Tower, around
the southern flank of Kibo, and slowly descend to Barranco, your most
spectacular campsite, at the foot of Kibo Peak, looming high above. Our
camp is only 142m higher than where we were last night, but our walk will
have taken us to just over 4300m today. This is one of your most valuable
days for acclimatization. Overnight at Barranco 3865m.
Meal Plan: {B, L, D}
DAY 05: Baranco Hut - Karanga Valley Camp
From the Barranco Hut we ascend up the Barranco wall and walk across screed
and ridges to Karanga Valley (4100m) with breathtaking views of the West
Breach and the southern glacier. Lunch is often taken here, depending
on progress. The afternoon can be spent on an acclimatization hike, before
spending the night at Karanga Valley.
Meal Plan: {B, L, D}
DAY 06: Karanga Valley Camp - Barafu Camp
After a relaxing start, about 2 hours from Karanga we will come out on
the Barafu path (part of the Mweka Trail). It is a further 1-2 hours to
Barafu. The last stage to Barafu camp is quite steep, and as always we
advise taking it as easy as possible. This is the day that leads to the
final ascent and so being as relaxed as possible, both mentally and physically,
is the best advice. In the evening you will be briefed for the final ascent.
Meal Plan: {B, L, D}
DAY 07: Barafu Camp - Uhuru Peak - Mweka Hut
You will be woken in the middle of the night and start the final ascent.
We plan to reach Stella Point by sunrise. (About 6 or more hours) At dawn,
from the Crater rim, rugged Mawenzi is a thrilling sight, with the Kibo
saddle still in darkness beneath you, and the crater's ice-walls looming
ahead. If you feel strong enough, you continue to Uhuru Peak (1- 2 hours)
This is the highest point in Africa, and the world's highest solitary
peak (5895m). This is the toughest day that most trekkers have ever experienced.
You will have ascended 1100m and descended 2,200m in a period of 12-15
hours. We continue down to Mweka Hut (3-4 hours from the top).
Meal Plan: {B, L, D}
DAY 08: Mweka Hut - Mweka Village
The final descent takes you through the lower heath section that quickly
turns into rainforest. Your time on Kilimanjaro ends at Mweka Village
(1450m), where your vehicle will be waiting to transfer you back to the
Arusha Hotel. Relax, take a hot shower and celebrate your achievement.
Meal Plan: {B}

WESTERN BREACH ROUTE
Kilimanjaro ( 7 Nights / 8 Days) WTST 24
Guaranteed Departures Minimum order: 2 People
This route is very steep and is recommended only for very
fit and capable climbers, as exertion is necessary. It might be possible
to go around the glacier but sometimes snow covers the entire breach and
makes this passage difficult. If you choose this challenging route you
will be rewarded with beautiful views of the Western Breach including:
The Terrace, Northern Glaciers and Fumaroles. We operate this trip at
a very high level of comfort, which makes it more expensive than some
of our other routes.
DAY 01: Hotel - Londorossi Gate - Forest Camp
Today we drive to the Londorossi Gate to get the relevant permits, then
backtrack to start our trek via the Lemosho Route. This takes us through
the wonderful Lemosho Glades. We walk through the lush forest which is
home to many buffalo, elephants, monkeys and a wide variety of birds.
We camp in mountain tents at Forest Camp at 2650m.
Meal Plan: {B, L, D}
DAY 02: Forest Camp - Shira 1 Camp
In the morning we continue along the steepening trail that winds out of
the forest into the giant heather moorland zone. We continue climbing
until we cross the Shira ridge where we drop slightly to reach a stream
on the Shira Plateau where we will stay overnight. We camp in mountain
tents at Shira 1 Camp at 3610m.
Meal Plan: {B, L, D}
DAY 03: Shira 1 Camp - Fischer's Camp
From Shira 1 Camp we trek to Fischer's Camp. The walk takes us across
the Shira Plateau. On good days the views can be breathtaking - the Shira
Plateau itself is an expanse of heath land, and the rim provides an attractive
backdrop where the clouds often melt down towards the Plateau floor. Kibo
also shines with a silvery luminance as the glaciers reflect the strong
sunlight. The final section to Fischer's (at 3795m) is fairly steep and
can be tiring.
Meal Plan: {B, L, D}
DAY 04: Fischer's Camp - Lava Tower Hut
Our walk today takes about 5-6 hours. We will leave the moorland behind
and continue up a rocky path through typical Kilimanjaro mountain vegetation
of Senesces, Lobelia and Helichrysum. From Lava Tower the views up towards
Kibo, of the Western Breach, are fantastic. We camp in mountain tents
at Lava Tower Hut at 4600m.
Meal Plan: {B, L, D}
DAY 05: Lava Hut - Arrow Glacier Hut
Today we climb the slope behind the hut, through cliffs of rock forming
the arrow glacier. We camp in mountain tents at the ruins of Arrow Glacier
Hut at 4900m.
Meal Plan: {B, L, D}
DAY 06: Arrow Glacier Hut - Crater Camp
We leave Arrow Glacier and begin the climb up through the Western Breach
until we reach a ridge like a staircase and scramble up onto the crater
floor. The Western Breach is the steepest part of the mountain with loose
rocks and boulders. Whilst the climb is non- technical, the altitude combined
with the incline will be a significant barrier to pace. It takes about
6 hours to reach the crater floor. Once at the crater there is also the
opportunity to meander over to the ash pit for views that most climbers
never get to see. We camp in mountain tents at Crater Camp at 5700m.
Meal Plan: {B, L, D}
DAY 07: Crater Camp - Uhuru Peak - Mweka Camp
From the Crater Camp we climb to the summit - Uhuru Peak at 5895m. You
get the most incredible views of glaciers surrounding you many storys
high, and the plains of Africa stretched out below you. We don't usually
stay here for long and soon start our descent via Stella point. The descent
to Mweka is steep and the use of poles is a great assistance down the
screed. The route passes Barafu camp, where many other climbers will have
ascended. By late afternoon you will be in your final camp. Overnight
Mweka camp at 3100m.
Meal Plan: {B, L, D}
DAY 08: Mweka Camp - Mweka Gate
The final descent takes you through the lower heath section that quickly
turns into rainforest. Your time on Kilimanjaro ends at Mweka Gate where
your Land Rover will be waiting to collect you and transfer you back to
Arusha hotel. It is now time to celebrate your achievement in a bar.

MOUNT MERU
Mount Meru ( 3 Nights / 4 Days) WTST 25
Guaranteed Departures Minimum order: 2 People
Mount Meru is one of Africa's most beautiful volcanoes,
and it is the second highest mountain in Tanzania at 4,5685m, the fifth
highest in Africa. The mountain is located within Arusha National Park,
Tanzanias gem. This prime location gives walkers the opportunity to spot
some of the birds and wildlife that inhabit the area. The ascend is quite
steep, the route to the summit passes over streams, through parkland,
Montana forest, a giant heather zone and moorland. The summit is reached
by a narrow, barren ridge, which provides stunning views of the Ash Cone
lying several thousand feet below in the crater. Weather permitting, Kilimanjaro
can be seen in the West. There are two huts available to climbers on the
mountain and firewood is supplied. The best time to climb Meru is between
October and February.
DAY 01: Hotel - Mommela Gate - Miriakamba Hut
Depart from your hotel in the morning for Momella Gate of Arusha National
Park (1,500 m.). After park entrance formalities, we begin our hike, guided
by a park ranger. The track passes open grassland, providing an opportunity
to see buffalo, warthogs and other grazers. The trail continues as a steady
climb through Montana forest. We take lunch near a giant Fig Tree arch.
After lunch, the route continues through less dense forest, where there
are an abundance of birds and black and white colobus monkeys. By mid-afternoon,
we can see towering cliffs and the Ash Cone. We reach Miriakamba Hut (2,514
m.), situated in an idyllic grassy glade, in time to enjoy the last of
the afternoon sun and beautiful views over the surrounding plains towards
Kilimanjaro. (4-6 hours walking).Dinner and Overnight at the hut.
Meal Plan: {B, L, D}
DAY 02: Miriakamba Hut - Saddle Hut
The walk from Miriakamba Hut to the saddle below Little Meru is a short
day but a steep climb. We slowly ascend through lush Montana forest to
reach the halfway point of Elephant Ridge. From here we enjoy excellent
views of the summit ridge and across the crater floor. The path continues
through giant heather and other fascinating moorland vegetation to reach
Saddle Hut (3,570 m), where lunch is will be provided. The afternoon is
free to relax and to enjoy the views. The more energetic can make the
short climb to the nearby summit of Little Meru (3,820 m) for superb views
just before sunset. (3-5 hours walking).
Meal Plan: {B, L, D}
DAY 03: Saddle Hut - Peak - Miriakamba Hut
You will start early at around 2 a.m. to climb steeply to Rhino Point
(3,800 m.), continuing along an undulating ridge of ash and rock to reach
Cobra Point (4,350 m) at sunrise. The views are stunning: the cliffs of
the Crater rim, the Ash Cone rising from the Crater floor, Kilimanjaro
floating on the morning clouds and west towards the Rift Valley if the
weather is clear. The summit of Socialist Peak (4,566 m.) is an hour further
on a good but steep path. The route back to Rhino Point in the morning
light, on a narrow ridge between the sloping outer wall of the crater
and the sheer cliffs of the inner wall, is one of the most dramatic and
exhilarating walks in Africa. We enjoy a rest and brunch at Saddle Hut
before continuing the descent to Miriakamba Hut (2,514 m, 10-12 hours
walking). Miriakamba Hut Note: The ridge between the summit and Rhino
Point is not suitable for those suffering from vertigo. In icy conditions
or in strong winds, it may be impossible for anyone to progress beyond
Rhino Point.
Meal Plan: {B, L, D}
DAY 04: Miriakamba Hut - Momella Gate
Breakfast. You will take the direct route down through open grassland
and mixed forest, with good chances of seeing wildlife. This trail has
excellent views back towards the crater and over the plains of the National
