Ngorongoro conservation area-Tanzania

The Crater is 610m deep and the floor is 260km² (102 square miles).

Animal populations in the crater include most of the species found in East Africa, but there are no impalas , topis , oribis , giraffes or crocodiles.

The crater floor is mostly open grassland with two small wooded areas dominated by Acacia xanthophloea.

The Munge Stream drains Olmoti Crater to the north, and is the main water source draining into the seasonal salt lake in the center of the Crater.

This lake is known by two names: Makat as the Maasai called it, meaning salt; and Magadi.

The Lerai Stream drains the humid forests to the south of the Crater, and it feeds the Lerai Forest on the Crater floor - when there is enough rain, the Lerai drains into Lake Magadi as well.

All the big five are to be found at the base of the crater.

However only males elephant's are found at the base and the females together with their young ones are to be seen in the forest on the wall of the crater and the males join the female only during mating periods in the forest.

3 Days/2 nights Ngorongoro Crater

This 3 days safari features only Ngorongoro Crater, a true wonder of the natural world, famous for its sunken caldera formed over a million years ago. The crater is inhabited in harmony by indigenous Maasai, their livestock as well as a startling variety of plant, animal and birdlife species. Accommodation is at Ngorongoro Serena Lodge.

Departures: Daily, minimum 2 persons.

Day 1. Arusha/Ngorongoro
Lunch at Impala Hotel Arusha then proceed to Ngorongoro crater rim. Dinner and overnight at Ngorongoro Serena Lodge.

Day 2. Ngorongoro
After breakfast, take picnic lunch boxes with you and descend into the crater floor for a full day tour. Return to Ngorongoro Serena Lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 3. Arusha/Out
Depart after breakfast and drive back to Arusha. Lunch will be at Impala Hotel. End of our services.

Prices include:
- Transportation in a custom safari vehicle (minibus or 4 x 4 ).
- Services of a trained experienced English speaking driver/guide
- Full board accommodation in the lodge based on double/twin sharing
- Park/crater entry fee.

Not included:
- International air transportation to and from Nairobi
